Our client is an international Private Bank with offices around the globe. Due to business expansion they are actively looking for an experienced candidate to join as a Market Risk Manager with the following requirements:
Responsibilities
Market Risk Management
- Ensure the Market Risk objective of “No Surprises” is met. The Bank is aware that the possibility of material losses exists commensurate with the risks being taken. The potential for these losses to occur should be identified, effectively interpreted and articulated as part of any “top risks” to senior management and LOB executives.
- Establish relationships with the LOB traders and manager(s), advise and increase their understanding of material market risks & new risk measurement methodologies and address ad-hoc risk queries.
- Monitor market environment, report on impact of market events on current market & traded credit risk positions and communicate to the Director, CRO, and other senior Risk Oversight managers, any exposures or other factors that expose the Bank to unusual, unexpected or otherwise not fully identified or quantified risks and assist in making recommendations concerning the disposition of such risks.
- Communicate technical, analytical, and conceptual information regarding market and traded credit risk measurement/methodology to traders and management on a daily and weekly basis or as required
- Advise the Director on appropriate risk limits and ensure appropriate processes are in place to monitor against limits (e.g. market value exposure and concentration) and review that the line of business activities fall within pre-established boundaries and exceptions or concerns are escalated to Market Risk for management review in keeping with relevant Capital Markets Risk Appetite statements.
- Provide independent analysis and recommendations to the Director to facilitate concurrence (when deemed appropriate) on LOB approved limit excesses.
- Work with the LOB to obtain pre-approval of market risk limit excesses (where applicable and appropriate) and to ensure any breaches of approved limits are properly escalated, approved and documented.
- Assist to develop, publish, update and file maintenance of Limit Letters as required.
- Identify gaps, weaknesses or opportunities for improvement in the Corporate Policy, Standards, and other directives supporting market risk-related activities in Hong Kong and to address these through recommendations to the Director, CRO Asia and other senior Risk Oversight Directors, as appropriate
Operational Risk Management
- Assist in the Operational Risk Oversight for Lloyd George Management (LGM), Asia Private Bank, Hong Kong Personal Banking Services (including immigration banking), and Hong Kong Branch (including support functions), and specifically the Hong Kong capital markets trading desk.
- Understanding business strategies, boundaries, scope, opportunities and risk through ongoing dialogue with LoB management; review available internal documentation including strategic presentations, financial results, Audit reports, and risk assessments (CSA sub-evaluations)
- Assist to manage the implementation, execution and continuous improvement of ORMF programs and processes (e.g. facilitating RCAs; assessing NPAPs; ensuring loss event data collection; defining KRIs; risk reporting) designed to provide management with a view of the LoB risk profile and of risks associated with business initiatives
- Assist in monitoring the resolution and escalation (if necessary) of operational risk issues
Credit Risk Oversight
- Assist to provide monitoring & reporting of credit related exposures, including trading counterparties, and any future retail margin lending.
Requirements
- 3-5 years directly related experience in market risk in a financial institution.
- Experience in credit risk, audit, risk consulting, or related internal control functions will be considered.
- Knowledge of financial products, capital markets, and counterparty risk.
- Knowledge of the Hong Kong regulatory environment or similar jurisdiction.
- Past experience in assisting in formulation of risk management policies, standards, procedures, and methodologies.
- Ability to train other employees on risk-related topics, policies, etc.
- Strong writing and verbal skills in English. Fluency in Cantonese or Mandarin is a plus.
- Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Excel, VBA, and computer applications.
- Familiarity with Blooomberg.
- Advanced knowledge, including quantitative skills, in economics or mathematics and statistics, knowledge of internal control, risk management, IT risk, and Basel.
- Knowledge of operations processes and controls used to clear and settle financial markets transactions.
